Emily is here

Emily arrived at the Dubai Airport shortly after midnight on Saturday. Instead of flowers, I presented her with a stuffed camel in a Santa hat! We talked until 4:30 and slept until noon, followed by sun-bathing and lunch at the pool. Then we decided to do some shopping in Dubai--modern and ancient--a mall and a souq. The souq was more fun! We bargained for all sorts of doo-dads for gifts and to decorate our tree.

Em wants to ski at Ski Dubai and golf, and go to the aquariums, and see camels, and camp in the desert, and............ I'm sure we will get to do a lot of wonderful things!

On the way home tonight we saw about 25 camels on side of the road and two burros on the other. A photo op extraordinaire!
I'll add a link later to the photos that Em took, because I just tried to add the specific photos and got one that wasn't even close!!!!!!!!! I'm going to need help!
Good night,
Lori

My visit to Istanbul,Turkey; Oct., 2008

Amanda, one of the teachers from school, and I took a trip to Istanbul for five days. It used to be called Constantinople, and spans two continents, with half of the city on one side of the Bosphorus and one part on the other. We had such a good time. We met some wonderful new people and visited Europe and Asia in the same day! The city is so modern at one end of the spectrum and so historical at the other. The New Mosque is ONLY 400 years old, for heaven's sake! I guess it is, though, compared to the Roman aqueducts nearby.

LORISUAEADVENTURES

"
Hello,
So this is retirement. I wondered!

If you would like to be in contact, we can write back and forth using this website.
If you have Skype, let me know, and I can call you directly. It is a challenge to talk to people in the US from here, however, since there is currently 9 hours difference. A few times, I've woken up Emily at 5 in the a.m. She can get so crabby! :)

I will add photos, too. I've taken lots of pictures here, of events, places, and people.

I truly encourage you to come visit. True, the flight is a bit expensive and it takes about 20 hours, but once you get here, you will find that all is worth it. I live on a resort, so there is much to do here, AND the surrounding emirates are very interesting. For example, I've been snorkeling, camped in the desert, gone four-wheeling, played golf, and shopped at the Mall of the Emirates where people ski and snowboard INSIDE. The UAE is quite a place!

Love to all,
Lori
